Palestrina, thought by many to be the greatest composer of all time, was born in Palestrina in 1514 or 1515 according to Baini, Riemann, and others. According to Haberi, he died in February 2, 1594 in Rome, though his early history is virtually unknown. A manuscript in the Vatican relates that a young Palestrina sang in the streets of Rome while offering for sale the products of his parent's farm.
